The Fisherman and His Wife, adapted by Larry and Vivian Snipes from the story by the Brothers Grimm.
Remember the tale of the fisherman who catches an enchanted fish and uses three wishes to try to bring happiness to his greedy wife? This familiar tale of wishes and transformations is well suited to the style of audience participation as the children in the audience create the sea and storms, go fishing, become chickens and ducks in the farmyard, and servants in the magnificent castle the fish provides for the wife. At the end of the play, the fish provides the wife with a suitable "reward" for her greediness!
This play tells of the madcap adventures of two bumbling actors who try desperately to present a few of the world's most beloved fairy tales. Unfortunately, their script becomes seriously scrambled, and they perform GoldiSOCKS and the Three WOLVES, The Three Billy TROLLS Gruff, and The Three Little BEARS, who end up battling the Big Bad BILLY GOAT to delay the destruction of their domiciles! With loads of humor and charm, the actors also guide the audience through the creative world of story structure and theatrical staging. In the end, the whole audience sets the stories straight for the actors.
